TECHNICAL GUIDES
Check whether a secondary SMTP route fits your tenant and what receiving configuration must be validated.
Secondary MX, temporary queuing during destination outages and automatic delivery on recovery. No mailbox pre-check, AntiSpam, Antivirus, content inspection or quarantine.
Primary MX gateway with configurable AntiSpam, Antivirus, sender-domain checks and quarantine. Publish only gate.securawall.com and configure a separate manual receiving target. Queuing and recovery remain included.
Add authorized outbound delivery to either Package 1 or 2 for the same domain. Separate add-on pricing, approval, server credentials, quotas, TLS and verified SPF apply. Customer-domain DKIM signing is optional and recommended. Incoming protection remains determined by the base package.

Microsoft 365 operates its own mail infrastructure. A cloud-only tenant is not automatically a candidate for another backup route. Describe the failure you want to address first: your own inbound gateway, a hybrid connection, a maintenance window or access to an outage mailbox. Backup MX does not restore cloud mailbox access.
Preserve the legitimate tenant MX and domain records. A backup route must deliver to the real receiving destination and must not resolve back to itself. Review the MX Check result, choose the delivery mode deliberately and confirm the targets saved in your SecuraWall account.
Microsoft documents Enhanced Filtering for Connectors for supported mail paths that pass through systems before Exchange Online. It can help preserve original source information for receiving checks. It is not a universal fix for arbitrary fallback routes. The tenant administrator must confirm whether the actual topology is supported and scope any trusted systems narrowly.
Before relying on the service, use controlled messages to approved test recipients. Compare direct and forwarded authentication results, delivery history and tenant-side diagnostics. Include temporary destination failure and a permanent rejection in the test plan. A successful DNS check is not evidence that the tenant accepted a message.
This page is an evaluation checklist, not a statement that your tenant has been tested or a copy-and-paste connector prescription. Hybrid and security policies vary. Contact support with your topology before changing restrictions, and retain your original routing configuration for rollback.
